Monsoon Pottery Clay Carving Workshop
Wednesday, June 4, 2025 6:00 PM
Sushi-san Lincoln Park is proud to host a one-night-only workshop with celebrated ceramic artist Danielle Chutinthranond of Monsoon Pottery. Join us for an evening where art meets craftsmanship, sushi meets sake, and you get your hands dirty in the best possible way.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of inlay, the ancient decorative technique used to create Monsoon’s signature blue-and-white porcelain. Danielle will kick things off with a guided history of inlay and its connection to traditional Asian ceramics. Then it’s your turn: tools in hand, you’ll follow along with a live carve-along demo before creating your own custom design on a porcelain plate.
Each ticket includes:
– A crash course in the history of inlay and blue + white wares
– Hands-on instruction from Danielle Chutinthranond
– One porcelain plate to carve and decorate using the inlay technique
– Some of your favorite Sushi-san bites
Fired and finished plates ready for pickup at Sushi-san LP in 2-3 weeks. Come prepared with line drawings or design ideas and Danielle will help you bring them to life! Additional plates will be available to carve for $40 each. Space is limited and this one’s sure to fill fast. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Monsoon Pottery or just looking for a creative night out, this is your chance to learn from a master and leave with a piece that’s entirely your own.
